The money collected will go toward research, summer camps, clinical visits, support groups and the purchase of wheelchairs. Last year Gaston County firefighters raised over 12,000 dollars. WORKING BARN FIRE (LINCON CO.)
Sunday, July 6, 2008
-
At about 1500hrs Lincoln County was advised of a severe thunderstorm warning. About 5 minutes later, Station 20 Base 1 and 2 along with Boger City was dispatched to a barn fire in 20's first due. Engine 201 checked en-route with heavy black smoke showing from Base 1. On 201's arrival they found a fully involved barn filled with hay on fire and called for an additional tanker from Station 3(East Lincoln). Engine 201's crew pulled a 2 1/2" Line to make an attack but the weather turned on them. With heavy amounts of lighting, blinding rain and 50MPH winds, command called the crews back and slowed all incoming units to routine traffic for safety of firefighters until the storm died down. Command then determined it would be best to pull the roof from what was left and let the fire burn itself out since there was no other structures threatened.
While this call was going on we were dispatched to several other storm related calls and had assistance from Station's 21(High Shoals) and 31(Lucia).
